Looking for some healthy breakfast recipe then try this barley pongal which is healthy,filling,tasty and easy to make.I got this recipe idea from here.While making i was little worried how my kids would like it or not, my daughter who is a best critic liked it very much.Barley has many health benefit some are its very rich in fibre,great source of zinc,etc.One thing i would like to share is ,eat it hot ( not only this any pongal variety)to get the real taste of it.
- Barley- 1 cup
- Split moongal dal/pasi paruppu-1\3 cup
- Salt to taste
- ghee+oil- 1tbsp
- Ginger-small piece(finely chopped)
- Green cheen chilly-1
- jeera-1\2 tsp
- pepper-1\2 coarsely powdered
- Cashew& badam- few
1.Wash barley and dal well.In a pressure cooker add them with 3-4 cups of water & salt.
Pressure cook it for 4-5 whistle.After the steam is realised open the cooker and mash it.
2.Heat a pan with ghee+oil and temper with the ingredients under " to temper" and add it to the cooked mixture and mix well.
Serve got with sambar & chutney.

1.The original recipe uses 3\4 cup of dal but i want more barley and reduced it.It also had some turmeric powder added i did not use it.
