By:

Ingredients
  • 243ml plant milk (we use oat milk)
  • 1 cup of frozen or fresh blueberries
  • 30ml of olive oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 3/60g medjool dates, seed removed
  • 1 small over-ripe banana (64 grams)
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 250 grams of self-raising flour (or all purpose flour)
Directions
  • Step 1  Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F/170 fan/gas mark 5 and line your muffin tin.
  • Step 2 In preparation take a small bowl and soak the dates in boiling water. Set aside for a few minutes until softened.
  • Step 3 Using a separate bowl, add plant milk and apple cider vinegar to make your ‘buttermilk’, set aside for a few minutes.
  • Step 4 Meanwhile drain out the water from the date bowl and mash dates with the back of a fork, with the aim to create a date paste.
  • Step 5 Take a large bowl and mix all wet ingredients, these include mashed up banana, date paste, oil, vanilla extract and ‘buttermilk mix’.
  • Step 6 Now add the dry ingredients to create your cake mixture. Gently fold through the blueberries into your mixture, then pour the mix into each muffin hole. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cooked. Then leave to cool completely.
  • Step 7 Store muffins in a airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freezer friendly up to 3 months.

Dairy-free Snowballs (calcium booster!)

December 4, 2018
: 13
: 5 min
:
: 5 min
: Easy

These non-dairy snowballs are FULL of calcium and are super tasty! Using coconut yogurt is a great alternative to use instead of full fat yogurt (dairy option). Some folks out there want to offer dairy free options to their baby or toddler, for either personal reasons or their baby may be allergic to dairy. Adding seeds ie chia, linseed, sesame seeds, tahini, almond meal/ground are all great sources of calcium. To assist in the absorption of calcium offer a couple slices of orange (high in vitamin c) alongside the snowballs.

By:

Ingredients
  • 55 grams (half cup) of raw quick oats or whole oats
  • 5 big heap tablespoons of coconut yogurt
  • 2x handful of blueberries (frozen or fresh or try adding another fruit of your choice i.e. cut up fresh fig, strawberries, kiwi, banana, grated pear, or apple! to name a few)
  • 2 tablespoons of almond meal (ground almond), 55 grams (half cup) of shredded/desiccated coconut (for coating the balls)
  • *Optional- if you would like to add extra calcium sources just add an additional tablespoon of: chia seeds, sesame seeds, flaxseed meal, some peanut butter, ground brazil nuts, almond butter, sultanas, you name it!
  • *Tip: serve the snowballs with a slice or two of orange! oranges are full of vitamin c and help with the absorption of calcium.
Directions
  • Step 1 In a bowl combine raw oats, coconut yogurt, almond meal and *blueberries (*or your choice of fruit), until the mixture becomes sticky, wet consistency.
  • Step 2 Once combined, wet your hands with water and roll out individual little balls about the size of your babies fist onto a prepared plate with shredded coconut (which will prevent them from sticking to each other).
  • Step 3 They are now ready to eat! OR store the balls in the fridge overnight and have them for breakfast the next day. Keep in fridge for up to a 4 days. Either make them the night before ready for breakfast the next day OR make them on the spot! TIP: serve snowballs with a couple slices of orange (vitamin d) to help with the absorption of calcium).
  • Step 4 How to serve for a 6-8month old BLWer: serve only two balls onto the highchair tray with a slice of orange. For an 8 month old+ serve exactly the same. If bub wants more offer more. To freeze: store them in the freezer (not touching each other) for up to 3 months. To defrost: take snow balls out of freezer, place a plate on bench top for only 30 minutes to defrost OR place in the fridge overnight (or 2hrs in fridge) to defrost. I usually leave a few in the fridge to have them on hand for a quick and easy breakfast or snacks over the next few days.

My 6 month old baby Lewis and my daughter Ava (2 years old) loved these xx Note: if you would like to make this recipe egg-free, replace 1 egg with flax-egg (1 tbsp ground flax + 3 tbsp water. Blend until mixture is thick, creamy, egg like) it’s been tried and tested.

Fresh Fruit Sticks (in season)

October 9, 2018
: 1 Baby
: 2 min
: 2 min
: Easy

Fruit is a great first food for baby led weaners 6 months old + when babies show all readiness signs to start baby led weaning. Fresh organic soft fruit in season is natures food that are packed with nutrients, fibre, vitamins and minerals for babies, toddlers and adults. Here is a list of some fruits to choose from for first foods.

By:

Ingredients
  • Take your pick of a fresh soft fruit to offer your baby led weaner. To give you an idea of what a finger sized stick looks like, see pic below! Remember, fresh ripe fruit in season is BEST, offering your baby and the family nutrients for that season. Example: in winter there are lots of oranges about (which are high in vitamin c - which helps fight colds and coughs)
  • Soft cooked apples (remove skin and heat up in microwave for 40 seconds OR try baked apple with cinnamon recipe)
  • Raw apple and hard pears (are classified as choking hazards for babies) try grating it with a fine grater and serve mixed in moist foods ie yogurt or mashed avocado
  • Apricots (cut in quarter wedges and remove stone)
  • Peaches (cut in quarter wedges and remove stone)
  • Plums (cut in quarter wedges and remove stone)
  • Pears (cut in long wedges)
  • Bananas (cut long ways in quarters)
  • Blueberries (cut in quarters)
  • Raspberries (cut in half)
  • Kiwi (remove skin and cut in wedges so baby can pick up and grip)
  • Mango (finger sized sticks or big wedges), the seed is also great for sucking)
  • Papaya (finger sized sticks)
  • Watermelon (seedless, finger size sticks)
  • Melon, cantaloupe (finger size sticks)
  • Honeydue (finger size sticks)
  • Tomato (serve in slices)
  • Cherry tomatoes (cut long ways in quarters)
  • Grapes (cut long ways in quarters)
  • Avocado (finger sized wedges, no skin, could try coating in coconut or breadcrumbs to avoid slipperiness)
  • Oranges (serve in wedges, can leave a little bit of skin on so baby can grip, but ensure you watch baby then there is skin left on fruit)
  • Strawberries (either serve whole if they are big and juicy OR cut into slices)
  • Dragonfruit (finger sized sticks)
  • Cherries (remove stone, cut in quarters)
Directions
  • Step 1 Note: ensure you wash, then remove any small stones in some fruits (ie apricots, cherries, plums) and buy seedless fruits such as watermelon. Remove any thick skins on fruit that you are not comfortable in serving. If you are using the skin as a handle for baby to hold onto, watch your baby closely). If you are concerned with thin skins on fruit remove it, not all fruit skin needs to be removed ie apricots, peaches, pears, cucumber etc The skin holds lots of nutrients! For slippery fruits: you can try and coat it in breadcrumbs, *almond-meal, shredded coconut, flax meal, cereal etc.
  • Step 2 How to serve fruit for *6-8 months old babies (see visual below): serve the fruit in sticks or wedges 5-7cm long sticks so baby can wrap their little fist around it.
  • Step 3 8 months old + (see visual below) you can start to serve in small pieces approx 2-4cm cubes so baby can start practicing their pincer grip (using their fingers). But you can still offer big slices to keep some variety for baby.
  • Step 4 Always ensure you watch your baby or toddler at all times when they are eating, especially if there is thick skin left on a fruit for baby to hold as a handle/grip. Any hard fruit or vegetable that cannot be squished or mashed using thumb and index finger and tough hard skins: either avoid or use the techniques above to make fruit a safer texture or shape for your baby. Remove skins as needed. *note: almond-meal is a potential allergy food for some babies, please consult your doctor if you have a family history of allergy or any questions or concerns. If you are offering the allergy food: it is recommended to provide the allergenic food earlier in the day when baby will be awake for a few hours to watch any signs/symptoms of an allergic reaction. Once your baby tolerates these, you may continue to offer allergy foods in baby’s diet consistently. (ref: ASCIA recommendations).

: Easy

Super easy and tasty Breakfast pancakes for 6mo+ and the family. These will be the quickest fresh pancakes you will ever make. No need to add extra toppings as the pancakes have already have a delicious sweetness to them. Easy to pick up for little fists (and BIG fists hehe). Here are some *alternative ingredients for babies and families with egg allergies, use one of these egg replacement ideas: flaxegg - blend 1tbs of flaxseed 3 tbs water OR add 3 tablespoons of peanut butter OR 1 tbs chia and 1/3 cup water and let it sit for 15min OR just add a additional 1/2 banana and don’t put egg in. Oat alternative: use coconut flour or almond meal.

By:

Ingredients
  • *1 Egg
  • 1 Banana
  • 1/2 cup (45g) uncooked *rolled oats (or quick oats)
Directions
  • Step 1 In a mixing bowl combine all ingredients to make up the pancake batter.
  • Step 2 Prepare a pan on low heat with a knob of unsalted butter, wait until the butter bubbles then spoon out your pancake mixture (using a teaspoon per pancake for 6-8month olds, and a tablespoon of mixture for 8 month old+ and adults). Once they start bubbling on top (approx 1min), flip pancakes and cook the other side. Be careful they don’t burn – by ensuring the stove top is on low heat.
  • Step 3 Then they are ready to serve! 6-8month old serve the small pancakes whole so baby can pick it up with his fist, this could be served by itself or maybe with a slice of fruit ie we chose peach, for 8month olds+ cut up the larger pancakes into squares so baby can practice his pincer grip. Freezer friendly: these pancakes can be put into the freezer for up to 3 months.

Bliss Balls

October 10, 2017
: 15 Balls
: 5 min
: 30 min
: 35 min
: Easy

These Snack Balls AKA as Bliss balls are a healthy alternative 'snack (or breakfast) on the run' for the whole family. The balls are made with natural sugars and are full of nutty and oaty goodness. For Baby Led Weaning bubs 6mo+ these are great for introducing blended / soft nuts to bub's diet if you haven't done so. *Note: According to the recent guidelines from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, potential allergenic foods like nuts butters or blended nuts are safe to introduce to babies as young as 6 months of age. Also according to ASCIA guidelines for allergy prevention: allergenic solid foods including peanut butter, cooked egg, dairy and wheat products should be given in the first year of life. For more information on allergenic foods and recommendation please read research and allergies on my website. If you are concerned and have nut allergies that run in the family, please discuss with your doctor.

By:

Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup of unsalted mixed nuts (OR you can just use one nut i.e. cashews or almonds work great!)
  • 9x seedless dates (Prep: soak the dates in hot water for until soft, then drain out the water) OR alternatively 2x heap tablespoons of 'date paste'
  • 2x tablespoons of organic cold-pressed coconut oil (room temp)
  • 1/2 cup of oats (quick or normal oats)
  • 1/4 cup desiccated coconut
Directions
  • Step 1 Prep: in a bowl with hot water soak the seedless dates for a couple of minutes until soft, then drain out the water. Set dates aside.
  • Step 2 In a blender (we used the phillip Avent basic blender) pour in the nuts and desiccated coconut, and blend for approx 2min (until nuts/coconut are completely blended and mixture becomes clumpy and wet when you press the mixture together with your fingers). Now set aside this mixture in a bowl.
  • Step 3 Using the blender again, blend the soft dates, coconut oil and oats together for approx 1minute until dates look chopped up (photo below)
  • Step 4 Now combine the nuts/coconut mixture back into the blender, on top of the dates mixture and blend all ingredients all together for approx 1min)
  • Step 5 Now your ball mixture is ready for rolling! Roll all balls (any size) by squeezing the mixture together with your hands and roll each ball in coconut
  • Step 6 TIPS:You can eat them straight away (which my daughter Ava did as she couldn’t wait haha…) but we usually place the balls into the fridge for 30 minutes to set (either keep some in the fridge for the week for snacks or breakfast anytime of day! The rest you can store in the freezer for up to 3 months (to defrost: just leave some balls out in room temperature for 30 minutes). Enjoy, they are super yummy 🙂

By:

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup quick oats (approx 50 grams)
  • 1/2 cup full fat milk (approx 100ml)
  • a small handful of blueberries or chopped up sultanas or raisins
  • a sprinkle of cinnamon or mixed spice
Directions
  • Step 1 Chop up a small handful of sultanas or raisins for young bubs 6mo+ (or keep the raisins whole for bubs 12mo+)
  • Step 2 On a low heat, on a stove top add oats, milk, sultanas and sprinkle cinnamon and consistently stir the ingredients together for approx 1-2min until you have achieved a creamy gluggy texture (note: add a little more milk if needed). Once a creamy gluggy texture, remove from heat, let the mixture cool, then with your hands start rolling small handfuls of the porridge into balls. (Ball size: for bubs 6mo-8.5mo make the porridge balls big enough for bub to put them into her/his hands/fist, 8.5mo+ you can make them a little smaller as per pic). Either serve straight away warm to bub OR roll all balls and keep them in the fridge in a airtight container and use for breakfast or snacks throughout the week!.
  • Step 3 TIPS!! for breakfast: serve warm or cold (great for teething babies). For snacks: keep the porridge balls in the fridge for up to 3 days and serve to bub either cold OR reheat a little to make them warm (i just serve them cold as snacks!). Keep a batch in the fridge for snacks also for Mum and Dad. They are super tasty!
Stove top – stir ingredients… this is what ‘creamy gluggy looks like’ (note: raisins can be left whole for bubs that are 12mo+, however for bubs that are 6mo-12mo I would chop them up!)

Home-made Peanut Butter

August 14, 2017
: 1x jar of peanut butter
: 2 min
: 6 min
: 15 min
: Easy

‘It is so nice to be able to make your own peanut butter at home! Super quick and easy! I know exactly what is in it, no preservatives, NO SALT, NO SUGAR or any nasties!’

By:

Ingredients
  • 400 grams organic peanuts either with skin (for a darker/richer peanut butter flavour) or no skin
  • 1x spare jar (I used an old jam jar)
Directions
  • Step 1 Preheat oven 170 degrees celcius and prepare a flat oven tray with a sheet of baking paper
  • Step 2 Pour all of the 400grams of peanuts onto the tray
  • Step 3 Place into the oven for 6 minutes until slightly brown (but not burnt)
  • Step 4 Take out the tray of peanut and let them cool for 15 minutes
  • Step 5 Place all the roasted peanuts into a high-speed blender (or good food processor) and blend until you get a creamy peanut butter texture (TIP: keep blending! Don’t give up… your mixture will become a breadcrumb consistency… push past this as it will eventually become a creamy consistency. DON’T be tempted to put any water or added oils into the mixture. Keep scraping down the sides and breaking up the ball)
  • Step 6 Once creamy, pour the peanut butter into a jar and store in the fridge for up to 4 weeks.
Pour all peanuts onto a tray – before oven
Blend all peanuts until creamy (after oven and have cooled down)
Creamy peanut butter texture (after blend)

Spinach & Blueberry Pancakes

June 18, 2017
: 3x pancakes
: 2 min
: 2 min
: 4 min
: Easy

Spinach & blueberry pancakes, best of both worlds... savoury and subtly sweet, full of goodness. For 6mo+ bubs. Pancakes are a great way to introduce egg into bubs diet, plus you can pack them with full of goodness for bub to pick up, hold and nibble/eat....either with their fist (young starter babyledweaners 6-8mo), use their pincer grip (usually developed around 8mo+) and older bubs that are using/practicing with cutlery like Ava (around 12mo+)... Blueberries are high in antioxidants and they also contain fiber, Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Organic spinach is a great source of iron, protein, fiber, vitamin A & E! Give em a go...

By:

Ingredients
  • 1x egg
  • 1x small handful of fresh or frozen spinach
  • 1x small handful of fresh blueberries
  • 1x tablespoon plain flour (or wholemeal flour)
  • 1x pinch baking powder
Directions
  • Step 1 Mix all ingredients together in a bowl until it turns into a pancake like mixture
  • Step 2 Using a frying pan, heat up some unsalted butter or olive oil and pour in pancake mixture to make pancakes
  • Step 3 Wait for the top of the pancake mixture to create bubbles, then flip over to cook the over side (approx 1min each side)
  • Step 4 Then leave to cool and serve!

Easy Peasy Scones

June 10, 2017
: 16
: 10 min
: 15 min
: 30 min
: Easy

Super easy fluffy scones for baby led weaners, toddlers, friends and family! These scones are tasty, healthy, soft and fluffy, great for snacks or even a breakfast meal on the run. No added salt, No sugar and no nasties! Feel free to add sultanas into the mixture if you would like to sweeten them up, if so add them after the butter has been added.

By:

Ingredients
  • 3 cups self-raising flour (note: 125 grams per cup)
  • 90g unsalted non-dairy or dairy butter (prep: chilled and cubed)
  • 1 cup (270 mls) of full fat dairy or non-dairy milk
  • Plain flour, for dusting
Directions
  • Step 1 Prep – preheat oven to 200°C and dust a large baking tray with plain flour. Then, in a large bowl, add all self-raising flour, then using your fingertips gradually rub all the cubed butter into flour (to become like a breadcrumb texture)
  • Step 2 Make a well in the centre, then using a flat-bladed knife gradually mix in a cup of milk and form a soft dough. Knead the dough gently until smooth. (try not to knead too much or your scones will be tough. Feel free to add a little more flour into dough if it is too wet).
  • Step 3 Pat dough down to approx 2cm thick round (for bigger scones make double the thickness, 4cm). Then, using a 5cm round cutter or anything round you have in the kitchen to mould our circles, cut all your scones. Place all scones onto prepared baking tray leaving approx 1cm gap between them. Sprinkle the tops of the scones with a little plain flour.
  • Step 4 Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden. Then leave to cool on a wire rack. Note: feel free to add chopped dates or raisins to your dough if you want to mix it up and make sweeter scones!

Baked Apple 'n' Cinnamon

: 11 min
: Easy

By:

Ingredients
  • 1x apple (or pear)
  • 1x serve (sprinkle) of cinnamon
  • 3x tablespoons of full fat greek yogurt
Directions
  • Step 1 Turn on oven 170 degrees Celsius. Prepare a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  • Step 2 Peel apple (or pear) and cut up into wedges. Then place wedges onto the lined baking tray and sprinkle cinnamon over both sides of the apple.
  • Step 3 Place into the oven for approx 8min. Remove and serve with a side of greek yogurt! Another cooking option: MICROWAVE OPTION: place apple or pear wedges onto a plate, sprinkle some no sugar cinnamon, and place paste into the microwave for approx 40 seconds, once softened, leave them to cool then serve to your BLWer. Tips: 6-8month old BLWer: serve apple or pear wedges approx 5-7cm long so bub can pick them up easily. 8mo+ you can either cut into wedges or cut into small cubes for baby to practice his pincer grip. Serve apple slices either warm or cold. You can keep the slices of apples in the fridge for a few days, they make great teethers served cold for bub. They make a healthy snack on the go for Mum as well!.

Healthy Hot Cross Buns

April 1, 2017
: 12
: 10 min
: 25 min
: 2 hr 30 min
: Medium

Want to make hot cross buns that are healthy, no sugar, only natural ingredients for the whole family and bubs 6mo+. These healthy hot cross buns are absolutely delicious, naturally sweetened and are great for babies 6mo+, kids, family and friends at Easter. The only thing you will need to consider is that the dough will need to rest and double in size in a warm place for 2hrs. I ended up making these on a Saturday morning and got Ava involved, a great introduction to baking with a toddler! She loved it, I gave her her own bowl which had some dough and raisins in it.

By:

Ingredients
  • 2.5 cups of plain flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat (wholemeal) flour
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarb soda
  • 2 teaspoon mixed spice (or just cinnamon)
  • 1x apple
  • 1 orange
  • 1/2 cup of raisins (or sultanas or dates)
  • 2/3 cup full fat milk
  • 2/3 cup full fat greek yogurt
  • The Cross:
  • 6x tablespoons plain flour
  • 6x tablespoons water
Directions
  • Step 1 In a pan add all the sultanas, squeeze the whole orange, grate the grind off the orange, then grate the whole apple – then place on heat for a few minutes until combined and liquid has been sucked up. Place the mixture aside until cooled.
  • Step 2 In a separate pan on heat combine the milk and yogurt for 1min, until mixed together. Set aside and leave to cool down until the mixture is ‘luke warm’ (very important lukewarm and not hot or not cold)
  • Step 3 In a bowl combine all the dry ingredients all together (flour, yeast, bicarb, spice mix).
  • Step 4 Once the milk/yogurt mixture is ‘luke warm’, make a well with the dry ingredients and then slowly pour milk/yogurt mixture in the well and mix in the flour, until all the mixture is combined. Then knead the dough for about 5 minutes.
  • Step 5 Add the cooled sultana mixture into the dough ball, then create one big dough ball.
  • Step 6 Place the dough ball in a bowl, cover with glad wrap, and leave in a warm environment for 2hrs, so the dough can double in size.
  • Step 7 Once dough has risen after 2hrs, knock it down and knead for a couple of minutes.
  • Step 8 Line a big pan with baking paper, roll out 11 balls of dough, place dough balls close together on the tray. Leave the balls there for 5minutes whilst you make ‘the cross ingredients’
  • Step 9 Turn the oven on 170 degrees.
  • Step 10 Cross ingredients:
  • Step 11 in a zip lock bag place 6 tablespoons of water 6 tablespoons of plain flour. combine ingredients using the bag.
  • Step 12 Snip off a small hole in the corner of the bag and pipe out one big line over the hot cross buns, then pipe another line to make one big cross going over all the buns.
  • Step 13 Place buns into the oven for 25 minutes.
  • Step 14 Then done! Enjoy tasty hot cross buns for the family and for babies 6mo+ great for breakfast or a snack when you don’t have time to cook, simply freeze them and take a bun out of the freezer and place into the fridge the night before for breakfast or when needed and heat up.

Ava's Raspberry Coconut Breakfast Loaf

March 1, 2017
: 1x loaf (approx. 15 slices)
: 10 min
: 40 min
: 50 min
: Easy

'Ava's Raspberry Coconut Breakfast Loaf' (no sugar, no salt, no sweeteners, all natural ingredients and suitable for 6m+, easy for bub to it up and eat) Recipe requested by followers!! Couldn’t live without this loaf! I bake it once a fortnight and freeze individual slices, and take out a slice in the morning and put it in the toaster to defrost or leave out the night before. Bub loves it. We either eat it at home for her breakfast or if i am going out to meet a friend for breakfast I toast (defrost) it for her in the toaster and place a couple of slices in a zip bag and bring it out with us in a cooler bag with her water. This is another version of Ava's breakfast loaf, this time with Raspberries instead of sultans OR try it with blueberries or strawberries. NOTE: adapt recipe to suit intolerances or allergies: use coconut yogurt instead of Greek yogurt or use oat flour instead or wheat flour. Loaf tin is: 900g/2 lb loaf tin. Dimensions may vary slightly but should be approximately 23 x 13 x 7 cm (9 x 5 1/2 x 3 inches).

By:

Ingredients
  • 3 bananas (the more over ripe then better!)
  • 2 cups (250grams) of wholemeal/wholewheat self-raising flour
  • 1/2 cup of desiccated coconut
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of greek full fat yogurt (heap)
  • 1 cup of fresh raspberries (or you can use blueberries or strawberries) * save a handful of raspberries to decorate loaf before going into the oven.
  • 2 tablespoon of poppy seeds OR Chia seeds OR sunflower seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of mixed spices (or just cinnamon)
Directions
  • Step 1 Preheat oven 170 degrees celsius and prepare a tin loaf tray with non-stick baking paper. In a large bowl combine all wet ingredients, then slowly mix in dry ingredients (sshhhh secret – don’t over mix!)
  • Step 2 Once combined the mixture should look like a cake mixture. Pour all ingredients into a prepared loaf tray (lined with baking paper) and decorate the top of the loaf, pressing in some left over raspberries and dusting with coconut.
  • Step 3 Place tray in the middle of the oven for approx 40min. Once centre of loaf is cooked, leave to cool completely, then slice up serve or/and freeze individual slices lay out separately in a zip bag.
  • Step 4 TIP: to defrost, take out a frozen slice in the morning and put it straight into the toaster (it may need one and a half “press of the toaster button” time depending on your toaster) ready for baby’s breakfast OR leave a frozen slice in the fridge (in a container) over night, ready to give freshly defrosted to baby in the morning – either can serve cold or toast it. This loaf is also a great way to introduce a bit of egg if you haven’t done so already.

How to serve breakfast loaf to a 6-8 month old? offering in a long adult pinky size slice so baby can wrap his fist around it. For 8 month old+ offer in smaller pieces (approx 2cm) so baby can practice her pincer grip.

BLWing Eggy Muffins

February 9, 2017
: 9 Muffins
: 5 min
: 25 min
: 30 min
: Easy

These Baby Led Weaning 3-ingredient Eggy muffins are SUPER easy to make, great to eat fresh for 6mo+ bubs and family OR freeze a batch for meals during the week. Easy to pick up for bubs, nice and fluffy to eat, nutritious and great for introducing egg into your bub's diet

By:

Ingredients
  • 6x organic free-range eggs
  • 3x tablespoons of full fat greek yogurt
  • 3x cups of organic fresh or frozen peas, spinach or mixed vegetables
Directions
  • Step 1 Turn the oven on 170 degree celsius and greese the muffin tray holes with unsalted butter or coconut oil (tip: using a silicon muffin tin with coconut oil works really well to prevent the muffins from sticking to the pan holes – and worth the investment! If using a tin pan ensure you grease with unsalted butter or coconut oil really well and thick to prevent sticking).
  • Step 2 Now add fresh or frozen vegetables into the 9 muffin holes (fill 3/4 of each muffin hole with the vegetables)
  • Step 3 Separately, in a jug crack all 6 eggs and yogurt and whisk until all combined. Now pour the egg mixture into each muffin tin hole, fill to the very top of each muffin tin hole. With your finger or spoon gently mix in the ingredients in each muffin hole. Now place the muffin tin tray into the oven for 25 minutes long.
  • Step 4 The muffins should be light, fluffy and cooked right through! 🙂 Enjoy! Ava takes these to childcare for breakfast or lunch… Mum and Dad also take these to work – they are delicious!  ❄ These are also great to freeze for up to 3 months. To defrost: place frozen muffins in a container and place into the fridge overnight, then reheat in microwave for 15 seconds

Eggy bread is a suitable for babies 6 months old+ showing all readiness signs to start baby led weaning. Please note, egg is a potential allergy food for some babies, especially those with a family history of egg. Current recommendations suggest to offer allergy foods consistently as early as from 6 months old to avoid allergy development. Read more about allergy foods under research and allergies on my website.

By:

Ingredients
  • 1x slice of wholemeal bread (either homemade bread or fresh bread from the bakery)
  • 1x egg
  • 1x bunch of fresh spinach or cut up frozen spinach
Directions
  • Step 1 In a bowl mix spinach and egg together, once combined soak one side of the slice of bread in the mixture, leave for 30sec and flip over and soak the other side – soaking up most of the egg.
  • Step 2 Prepare a non-stick pan with a little olive oil and pan fry the eggy spinach bread – 1min one side, flip, and then 1min on the other side.
  • Step 3 For babies 6-8 months old (pre-pincer grip) cut eggy bread into long finger pieces so baby can pick it up himself and wrap his fist around it (as per picture above). • Step 7 Note: Overripe bananas are the key to a tastier loaf. They will be easier to mash, sweeter and more flavoursome. They have so much natural sweetness with no added sugar!
  • Step 8 Note: also a great way to introduce a bit of egg if you haven’t done so already.

'Snow Balls' - easy to pick up & tasty!

October 28, 2016
: 13 balls
: 2 min
: 1 min
: 3 min
: Easy

These SUPER easy Snow Balls are a staple in our family for #myblwer Ava. They are suitable for 6mo+ they are nice and soft to chew on and so easy to handle without the mess. We have been offering these to Ava since she was 6mo, I wanted a breakfast that I could offer Ava without the mess, easy to pick up and full of nutrition. They are so easy to make, I usually prepare them on Sunday evening and they will last a few days. I offer these to bub for breakfast or snacks when are busy (which is always hehe) and on the run. These balls include full fat greek yogurt which is a great source of calcium for growing babies! Ava does not drink cows milk, so this was a great way to get more calcium into Ava's diet.

By:

Ingredients
  • 55 grams (half cup) of raw quick oats or whole oats
  • 4 big heap tablespoons of full fat greek yogurt (or for a dairy free option use coconut yogurt).
  • 1x handful of blueberries (or any fruit you have at home ie cut up strawberries, grated pear, or apple, cut up kiwi or banana!)
  • 55 grams (half cup) of shredded or desiccated coconut (to use in the balls and for coating the balls)
  • Additional or optional change up the balls by adding in a tablespoon of chia seeds, flaxmeal, some peanut butter, crushed walnuts, almond butter you name it
Directions
  • Step 1 In a bowl combine raw oats, yogurt, *blueberries (*or your choice of fruit), feel free to squish/break in half the blueberries into the mixture so the flavour is throughout the snow balls. Also add 1/4 cup of coconut until the mixture becomes a sticky, wet consistency. (see photos below)
  • Step 2 Once combined, wet your hands with water and roll out individual little balls about the size of your babies fist onto a prepared plate with coconut (which will prevent them from sticking to each other).
  • Step 3 They are now ready to eat! OR store the balls in the fridge for up to a 4 days. Either make them the night before ready for breakfast the next day OR make them on the spot! How to serve for a 6-8month old BLWer: serve only two balls onto the highchair tray. If bub wants more offer more. For an 8 month old+ serve exactly the same.

Banana-nut Sandwiches

: Easy

By:

Ingredients
  • 1x banana
  • 1x tbsp of 100% almond butter or 100% peanut butter (we make ours home-made - super easy!)
Directions
  • Step 1 Cut up 1x banana into 1cm slices, butter on 100% peanut butter or almond butter on one side of the banana slice, and then stick another banana on top ‘like a sandwich’ and cut pieces in halves ? down!
  • Step 2 for 6m+ bub’s I would leave the sandwich bananas whole (not cut) for ease of picking up. For older bub’s 9m+ and have pincer grip smaller pieces like the photo works a treat. Note: current recommendations by ASCIA 2016 “infants should be given allergenic solid foods including peanut butter, cooked egg and dairy and wheat products in the first year of life” (ref: Australasian Society Clinical Immunology and Allergy) we started at 6mo. *always consult your doctor if you are concerned and do your own research as well.

Blueberry + Chia Pancakes

August 22, 2016
: makes 4 pancakes
: Easy

These Blueberry + Chia Pancakes are to die for! For 6mo+ easy to hold for bub and nice and soft and tasty. Mum, dad and bub enjoyed these quick and easy pancakes for breakfast. Serve with some pre-loaded spoons of greek yogurt if you like.

By:

Ingredients
  • Recipe
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1xegg
  • 1xtablespoon flour
  • 1x tablespoon of Chia seeds
  • 3/4x teaspoon of cinnamon or mixed spices
  • 2x tablespoons of blueberries (either fresh or frozen)
Directions
  • Step 1 In a bowl mash the banana, then combine in the egg and chia seeds – let this mixture sit for a few minutes (to allow the chia seeds to soak up the wet ingredients). Now add in the dry ingredients (flour, cinnamon) into mixture. Whisk with a fork all the ingredients to get some air bubbles into the mixture. now stir through the blueberries. With a tablespoon, spoon out the batter to make individual pancakes into a pan fry (with unsalted butter or coconut oil), wait until little bubbles start to appear on pancakes, then flip, let cook for 30sec to a minute on other side until cooked.
  • Step 2 How to serve for babies 6 months old+ can either serve the pancakes into finger sized strips (see photo of baby Lewis), so baby can pick up and hold OR can serve a round small pancake size a bit bigger than the size of a babies fist.

we used frozen blueberries and the mixture went purple!
