Samba Rava Pongal/Kichadi

I mostly don't make pongal with rice,i use oats,samba rava& rava.I like to try it with other cereals than rice,i must try using quinoa.My daughter likes pongal made with any cereals,if vada was there it will be awesome.


1.Broken brown rava-1 cup
2.Moong dal-1\4 cup
4.Water-2 1\2 cup
5.Salt to taste

To temper:

1.Oil + ghee- 1 tbsp
3.Whole pepper
5.Green chilli-1(acc. to ur spice level)
6.Ginger- 1 cm length
7.Cilantro/Coriander leaves


1.Wash dal and rava ,add it to cooker with 2 1\2 cup water and little milk.Add salt and cook for 2  r 3 whistle.

2.Cut ginger& green chilli into small pieces.

3.Heat ghee+oil,add jeera,pepper,chilli & ginger ,cashew and saute for a while,add cilantro  ,give quick mix and the temper to the cooked pongal.

4.Mix it well and serve hot with Sambar or chutney or both.
