Bottle gourd in lentils

Bottle gourd/Sorakkai is one of my favourite vegetables my kids to love it.it has many medicinal properties like

Its has enormous impact on high blood pressure & heart disease.
The juice from its leaves cures jaundice.
It reduce fatigue and keep you fresh during summer.
And goes on.

Try to eat more at least during summer.



Ingredients:

  • Bottle gourd/ sorakkai- 1 medium
  • Toor dal- 1\4 cup
  • Onion-1
  • Tomato-1
  • Green chilli-1
  • Garlic pods- 5
  • Cumin seeds/jeera- 1\2 tsp.
  • Turmeric powder-1\2 tsp.
  • Oil/ghee- 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste.
  • Mustard- to temper




Method:

1.Clean and soak dal in water for 10 mins.

2.Wash ,peel and chop bottle gourd in to medium or small pieces.

3.Cut onion and tomato and keep ready.

4.In a pressure cooker add dal, bottle gourd pieces, onion, tomato, green chilli,garlic pods,jeera.turmeric powder and  1 to  2 cup water.

5.Cook it for 10 minutes or 4-5 whistles.

6.When the pressure release,open it and mash well if not cooked well.Add the salt needed.

7.Then temper it with mustard.

This will be awesome with hot steamed rice with a tsp. of ghee.It can also be used as side dish for chapathi.



Note:

1.You can use any dal variety to make this. I mostly use toor dal.

2.You can use other veggies mixed with this too.
