Its 4th Thursday of the month means it is vegan Thursday.Priya of Priya's Versatile Recipes has come with this new idea of vegan Thursday any blogger interested check her space for details. As this is my first post for vegan Thursday I decided to start it with a sweet.
My father brought me a pack of dried figs when he visited Israel holy land for a tour on May.It was lying on my fridge for a long,i was wandering what to do with it,first thought to make fig milkshake, then later while browsing got this sweet from here, made light changes in the ingredients. The one think I love about the halwa is the crunchy effect of the fig nuts was something different,do try it if u get/come across figs.
- Maida/flour- 3\4 th cup
- Sugar- 1 1\2 cup
- Water- 3 to 4 cups
- Ghee-3\4 cup + 1 tbsp.
- Nuts- generous amount(cashew,pistachio)
- Food colour- a small pinch(brown colour)(optional)
- Figs- 20 nos.
- Dates-5 (Arabian dates)
- Sultanas/brown Kismis/dried grapes- 2 tbsp.
1.Soak figs in water for 1 hr or more and dates for 15 mins. and discard it seed.Grind soaked figs, dates and dried graped to a fine paste without any water.
2.Mix flour, water, sugar and food colour ,blend it well without any lumps and keep ready.
3.Meanwhile roast the nuts in a tbsp. of ghee and keep aside.
4.In the same pan add the flour mix and stir for few minutes and then add the ground fig mix to it and mix well till everything combines.
5.Keeps stirring and add ghee side by a till the halwa changes its colour to dark brown and leaves the sides of the pan.
6.Pour it on a greased pan and top it with fried nuts and spread it well.
7.Allow it to cool and cut it.
1.In the original recipe the sugar amount was 2.1\2 cup I reduced it much as the figs and dates will have sweets. But my halwa was sweeter.
