Kollu Rasam | Horsegram Tamarind gravy | Horsegram Recipe


Horse gram is also known as kollu has lot of health benefits.It reduce blood cholesterol and is very good for cold and cough and mainly help in weight reduction.




Preparation time-10 mins
Cooking time-10mins
Serves-4

Ingredients:


  • Horse gram- 2 tbsp
  • tamarind- small berry size
  • turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • coriander leaves-to garnish



For grinding:


  • Whole pepper corns-1 tsp
  • Coriander seeds-2 tsp
  • Jeera/cumin seeds-1 & 1\2 tsp
  • Tomato-1 medium
  • Garlic pods-5


To temper:


  • Oil
  • Mustard seeds-1\2 tsp
  • hing powder-1\4 tsp
  • curry leaves







Method:

1.Soak horse gram over night and in morning pressure cook it with 3 cup of water for 3-4 whistle.Drain and keep the water and keep water and kollu separate.

2.Soak tamarind in water and extract juice.Grind all the ingredients under " to grind" along  with cooked horse gram to a coarse paste.




3.In a mixing bowl add the ground paste,kollu cooked water,tamarind juice,turmeric powder,salt and mix well.

4.Heat oil in pan and temper with ingredients under " to temper" and add pour the mixed juice mix to it.When it forms forth and begins to boil switch off.



Garnish with cilantro /coriander leaves and serve
