Gongura pappu /Sorrel leaves in lentils in one of the famous Andhra cuisine.Gongura pachadi/chutney is another one of their main recipe will try to post later.

Serves- 2 to 3


  • Toor dal-1\2 cup
  • Gongura leaves- 1 n 1\2 cup (cleaned & chopped)
  • Green chilly-2,slited
  • Turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
  • Onion-1,chopped
  • Salt to taste

To temper:

  • Oil-2 tsp
  • Jeera-1\2 tsp
  • Garlic flakes-4 ,chopped
  • curry leaves


1.In a  pressure cooker add dal,chopped leaves,onion,green chilly and turmeric powder.Add 2 to 3 cups of water and pressure cook it for 4-5 whistle or till cooked.

2.After the pressure is released open the cooker and mash it well spoon/hand blender well.Add salt and keep in flame if its too watery.Switch off  when it becomes little thick.

3.Heat another pan and temper with all ingredients under " to temper" and add to the cooked dal.Mix well.

Serve with hot steamed rice with a tsp of ghee.
