Barnyard millet/Kuthirivalli Vegetable Khichadi | Millet Recipe

As we all know the goodness of millets and many have started using it regularly .I have tried all millets variety and made many recipes,you can check in recipe index.mostly i make pongal with millets and i want to try khichadi with it and tried a day.Healthy and tasty food recipe in just 10mins.

cooking time:10 mins
Serves-2 to 3


  • Barnyard millet/kuthiraivalli-1 cup
  • Onion-1 chopped finely
  • Green chilly-1 
  • Mixed vegetable-1 cup( i used carrot,beans and green peas)
  • Ginger garlic paste-1\2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder-1\4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water-2 n 1\2 cup

To temper:

  • Oil-2 tsp
  • mustard-1\2 tsp
  • channa dal-1 tsp
  • curry leaves


1.Clean the millet well.chop everything and keep ready.

2.Heat oil in thick bottomed pan(i used my cooker),temper with mustard,channa dal and curry leaves.Then add in onion and green chilly,saute till it becomes translucent.

3.Then add in ginger garlic paste  followed by vegetables,turmeric powder and salt,saute.

4.Then add water,when it begins to forth add the cleaned millet.cover and cook for 10 mins.(Alternatively can pressure cook for 2 whistle).

Serve hot with your favourite chutney.


1.If you want to be fluffy u can reduce 1\2 cup water.
2.Serve hot as it dries fast.
