Kalan is one dish which is served in the sadya meal which is nothing but yam/raw plantain or both cooked in coconut-yogurt masala paste.It must cook carefully as curd/yogurt may tends to curdle.I prepared this today along with sambar which was so yummy.I slightly adopted the recipe from here.

- Yam & Raw plantian-1 cup(diced)
- pepper powder-1 tsp
- Green chilly-1
- Salt to taste
- Sour curd-1\2 cup
- Grated coconut-1\3 cup
- Turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
- jeera-1 tsp
- Coconut oil-1 tbsp
- Mustard-1\2 tsp
- pearl onion-2 r 3,chopped finely
- curry leaves-few
1.Peel the skin of the 2 vegetables and cut them in to cubes.cook them in a pan along with pepper powder,green chilly and salt.
2.Grind the ingredients under " to grind" to fine paste with little water.Whisk the curd well and to it add the ground paste and mix well.
3.When the vegetable is cooked remove from flame and allow to cool a bit.then add the curd-masala mix and mix well.check for salt and add.
4.Then keep it in flame cook in very low fire.Keep stirring for 5-7 minutes and switch off.
5.Then tadka with the ingredients and add to it.
Tasty kalan is ready to be served for sadya.
1.After adding curd/yogurt keep in low flame and stir as it may curdle.
