Green Tomato Chutney | Pachha Thakalai Chutney | Side Dish For Idli / Dosa

Green tomato chutney makes a good combo for south Indian breakfast idli/dosa.The tangy taste of tomato along with the some spice from green chilly makes this chutney tastes awesome.first I had a doubt how my kids will react but they to enjoyed it to the core.
Preparation time:10mins
Cooking time:under 10 mins

  • Green tomato-2
  • Green chilly-2 r 3
  • Sesame seeds- 1 tbsp ( i used both black& white)
  • Garlic pods- 2 (optional)
  • tamarind-very small berry size
  • salt-to-taste
To temper:
  • oil-1 tsp
  • mustard-1\2 tsp
  • curry leaves-few


1.Dry roast the sesame seeds well.In the same pan saute the chopped chilly in little oil and keep aside.

2.Add chopped green tomato to it and saute again till it becomes little tender.Switch off.Cool a bit.

3.Transfer all the roasted in ingredients to a mixer and grind to paste along with tamarind,garlic(if using) &salt.Add little water and make a fine paste.

4.Temper it and serve as side dish for idli/dosa.
