Murungai/moringa leaves are the healthiest green and are rich in iron. Unlike other greens, many don't prefer this green may be due to the shape. While other greens wilts on sauteeing but his moringa leaves remain as such even after sauteeing. You can include in adai (savory lentil crepes), soups, poriyals,etc. As my daughter is anemic I have started including it in her diet.

I have never realized that I would make this kai murukku in my life. Thanks to this blogging world which makes the impossible possible. Already I have posted kai murukku in my blog long back but in it I soaked rice, wet ground it and prepared the murukku. But here I powered the rice and make the dough. Here is the link to it. Also I that previous one I used fried gram dal powder whereas here I have used urad dal powder. You can use either of them. The only thing to have in mind is to make a crack-free smooth dough.

Besan ladoo is one of the easiest sweet to make. It just needs very few ingredients. There are some keen points to have in mind while making this sweet. First, the roasting of the besan flour. You have to roast the besan flour well in ghee for at least 20 mins. You need patience in doing it. keep the flame low and roast it well till it changes its color to a darker shade. If you skip roasting well you make end up having ladoo with the raw smell of the flour. And the second thing is adding the sugar powder after the roasted flour is cooled well. If you add before it you will not be able to make balls.

I already have this horsegram idli recipe in my space which I tried from another blog during my early stage of blogging. The difference between this from that is here urad dal is used, whereas in that recipe dal is not used. As dal is used here you couldn't find any difference from regular idli and I was so satisfied to have fed my family with another healthy idli recipe.

In my momos chutney post I have mentioned about this chicken momos only. I would say the momos recipe looks somewhat similar to our south Indian kozhukattai recipe. I momos the outer dough is made of maida/flour where in kozhukattai it will be rice flour. In the former we use veggie or non-veg stuffings whereas in kozhukattai we use sweet/savory stuffing and it is mostly used as festive recipe/snack/dessert.

I have another reason to make this dessert, there are two birthdays in a row, today my husband's and a day after tomorrow it is my birthday. So to celebrate it I made this.

This is a sweet, spiced, and tangy chutney/dip. Making this dip is so easy, just boil the ingredientss and grind it. Instead of tomato, you can use vinegar also. In that case just boilree chill in water. THen grind it with vinegar.

For this festival season try this healthy pidi kozhukatai in alternative to your regular one. You can use either homemade sathu mavoo or store brought. Here I used store brought flour. It just takes nearly 10-15 mins to make this recipe. Dry roast the flour then make a dough with palm jaggery syrup. Make it into the desired shape and steam it.

Nei appam alias Unni appam is a Kerala's delicacies. Usually, the rice is soaked, ground and the appam is made. But nowadays many make it in many different ways. Even I make this appam with wheat flour, banana, and sweetener. I want to make the authentic appam and tried it this week for an evening snack. Since this batter no need for fermentation I soaked in afternoon, ground and made it in the evening. As the name says they use ghee alone to make it but here I have a mix of both ghee and oil.

Seedai is a deep-fried snack which is made with rice flour and urad dal flour. A dough is made with both flours along with salt and spices for salt version. For the sweet version, jaggery water ( jaggery just melted is water)is used. Though we don't celebrate these festive I love to make recipe related to each festival.

Being a south Indian idli/dosa is one of our regular breakfast or dinner. Apart from regular white rice idli/dosa, I try to make a batter with many millets. When a bought a pack of this black rice I have an idea to make idli/dosa with it. After making black rice /Kavuni rice payasam I decided to try this breakfast recipe and it turned out super soft and tasty. You will never notice any difference in taste except the color.

Sesame is a quick variety rice recipe which just needs a total of 5 mins if you have your cooked plain rice ready. Just dry roast the powder, cool and powder it. Mix the powder to the cooked rice and tempered the rice. That's all your ellu sadam is ready in a jiffy. Sesame is called as Ellu in Tamil. For this recipe, you can use either white or black sesame seeds.

Adai is rice- dal mix savory pancake. Here in addition to dal & rice I have also used a millet (Samai) to make it more healthy. Adai doesn't require any fermentation. You can make it right after grinding the batter just a resting time of 10-15minutes. Since this recipe is so heavy with dal& rice you will feel full with just one adai. Here I have used little millet but you can use other millet varieties also.

Jaggery is a simple, addictive cake with less sweetness which goes well with a cup of tea/coffee for breakfast or snack. This cake was so delicious that I couldn't stop with a piece. Since I used wheat flour and maida half and a half it was a bit healthy too. As we have used jaggery even diabetic people can have with a limit.

Last week I left my milk pot in low flame and went out. I thought I have switched off but when I returned back it was a disaster. The milk has all burnt up resulting a vessel totally charred. Initially
I thought I need to trash the vessel, later after seeing some videos I tried this method and it worked. It is so easy just any washing powder you use to wash the cloth is needed. The next time when accidentally burn a vessel try this method.

Whenever an overripe banana appears in my table counter, the first thought that would come to my mind is to bake a cake. Since I love banana I buy them more and since my kids hate them the banana would overripe soon. I see that I eat them before they are overripe. If something left out I make bread, muffins or unniappam. This recipe is similar to eggless banana bread except for the addition of cocoa powder. Here I have used a mix of wheat & maida but you can use either one of the flour or a combination.

Here I have added just onion and tomato. This can be had either as breakfast or snack.

When it comes for evening snack many prefer deep fried snacks and me too not an exception. I make methu vada if I have sambar left out from morning breakfast. Else I opt for bajji, masala vada, etc.  To make perfect bajji the mix is very much important. The correct amount of rice flour with besan flour gives a perfect crispy Bajji or bonda. By using this mix you can  any bajji or bonda.

Black rice is one of the healthiest rice and it is different from red rice and brown rice. It is also called forbidden rice by the Chinese. Some health benefits of it are, it is rich in antioxidants, helps to fight diabetics, as this rice is gluten-free it is the best alternative for those with gluten allergies, etc. This rice is found to be to have the highest content of the antioxidant anthocyanin. Sine this rice has a deep dark color it gets the name as black rice but when cooked it gives a purple shade.

Peanut butter is so easy to make with just 3 ingredients. Markets are flooded with this butter in different brand name although sometimes I buy it, my daughter, who had become a grat of this butter says homemade is best when compared to the readymade one. So please give a try this butter ar home and I'm sure you won't go back to any brand. You can either make this butter smooth or crunchy. Here I ground half the quantity to a fine consistency and added the remaining and just coarsely ground along with the fine one.

Idiyappam/string hopper is my family favorite recipe. Mostly I prepare this idiyappam for dinner as we can make it more leisurely. You can use any spicy gravy either veg or non-veg to pair up. This string hopper like puttu can be made with all flours. I do have some variety in my blog, check it in the search box. After making yellow corn puttu I decided to make this string hoppers with the flour. You can use only this corn flour or a mix of rice flour with it. I used half cup rice flour.

Puttu is a steamed breakfast which is considered healthy. It is one of the main breakfast recipes in the state of Kerala. There they serve with kadalai curry, cooked payaru (green grams)-papad, chicken/mutton gravy and for the sweet version they give sugar and banana. I always love to have my puttu with banana and sugar.

Ragi/ finger millet is one for the healthiest millet which is very suitable for this summer season. Since it cools our body temperature one should have this millet in any form during summer. Paniyaram can be made with idli/dosa batter but I want to make a batter especially for this paniyaram. So I decided to try this. Just a cup of millet and 2 tbsp urad dal I used.

Sambar powder is one of the most used powders in the south Indian kitchen. It is not alone used for sambar but can be added in vatha kuzhambu, stir-fries, and koottus. My mom always makes a fresh small batch of this powder every time she makes sambar. But I never make it and always go for a shortcut method with readymade sambar powder. Fresh sambar is so aromatic and tastes the best. So always make a small batch and use within a week.

This popsicle is so easy to make with just 3 ingredients. You can either add vanilla essence which is purely optional. both my kids loved this popsicle and my son enjoyed it to the core. It is best for the summer as the heat is soaring up day by day. I have used white choc chips but you can also you a white chocolate bar.

Nannari is a medicinal root used to prepare this syrup. You can get this in a local Siddha medical shop,(Nattu Marunthu Kadai). This root is one of the best coolants for this summer. You can easily get this syrup in all departmental store where it will be labeled as a synthetic flavoring used and also they used sugar to make this. I have bought this syrup before but I always want to try it at home. so I bought this root from a local medical store near my house and made it with jaggery. You can also use cane sugar.

This is one recipe I learnt after coming to this blogging world. On seeing fellow bloggers making mouth-watering pav bhaji I got remembered of this when I first tasted it in Mumbai some 20 years back. Now I tried my own version of cooking the vegetables in a pressure cooker and mashing it. THen adding it to the sauteed onion tomato masala along with spices and thickening it. The Everest pav bhaji masala does the magic in this recipe. Sometimes I make this with leftover veggies along with some legumes to make it nutritious. Here I have black-eyed peas.

This is one of the simplest and easiest biryani one can make. Even a beginner can make this. There is a little story behind this recipe. One evening my daughter carved for biryani after returning home from college. She was in that carve even the word biryani when she heard made her salivating. She enquired whether I have any meat in the refrigerator. When she found nothing so decided to make this egg biryani and relish it. With little instructions from me, she made it wholly. Even these pictures she took it from her mobile. We had it with onion-curd raitha.

Ice creams/ popsicle and summer are both inseparable. My kids always look into the refrigerator for some chilled drink/goodies. So I decided to make some popsicle from the milk they refuse to drink as they started hating drinking hot health drinks. so if you have any leftover milk make this easy popsicle. Even if you don't have mould just pour into a tumbler/ paper cup, set it and serve.

This kuzhambu is simple to make and taste delicious for hot steamed rice. The temperature here in Chennai is soaring high day by day and it becomes unbearable to cook in the heat. Here coconut is not used instead soaked dal is used to make the paste. Pair some papad or any fries to have a filling and satisfying meal.

Wheat rava idli is a healthy breakfast recipe as we have used wheat instead of regular rice. As wheat is used it is very good even for diabetic people and we find this recipe healthy, tasty and filling. I have used regular broken wheat. But you can also use samba wheat. Clean the wheat rava and soak with less water because after soaking we will not throw out the water. We will use the soaked rava together as such to grind. So use very less water for soaking wheat.

All though we don't celebrate nombu means fasting I wish to try to justify my role as a food blogger. When I saw this bright red colored fresh red chili in the market I immediately grabbed some to make few recipes. Apart from this sauce, I didn't do any recipe and the remaining just went into curries and sabzis. This is one of the winter recipes and I bought this along with fresh turmeric in December. This post was lying in my draft. This sauce can be used to the side for momos, crackers and can even use in making any masala. Recently I used it to make potato masala for roti which turned out yummy.
