Sambar powder is one of the most used powders in the south Indian kitchen. It is not alone used for sambar but can be added in vatha kuzhambu, stir-fries, and koottus. My mom always makes a fresh small batch of this powder every time she makes sambar. But I never make it and always go for a shortcut method with readymade sambar powder. Fresh sambar is so aromatic and tastes the best. So always make a small batch and use within a week.

This popsicle is so easy to make with just 3 ingredients. You can either add vanilla essence which is purely optional. both my kids loved this popsicle and my son enjoyed it to the core. It is best for the summer as the heat is soaring up day by day. I have used white choc chips but you can also you a white chocolate bar.

Kesari is one of the easiest sweet one can make very quickly. whenever we carve for some sweet my daughter would say to make this we would love it. Together with pineapple, this Kesari tastes yum. If you are a pineapple lover then I'm damn sure you will love this.

Nannari is a medicinal root used to prepare this syrup. You can get this in a local Siddha medical shop,(Nattu Marunthu Kadai). This root is one of the best coolants for this summer. You can easily get this syrup in all departmental store where it will be labeled as a synthetic flavoring used and also they used sugar to make this. I have bought this syrup before but I always want to try it at home. so I bought this root from a local medical store near my house and made it with jaggery. You can also use cane sugar.

This is one recipe I learnt after coming to this blogging world. On seeing fellow bloggers making mouth-watering pav bhaji I got remembered of this when I first tasted it in Mumbai some 20 years back. Now I tried my own version of cooking the vegetables in a pressure cooker and mashing it. THen adding it to the sauteed onion tomato masala along with spices and thickening it. The Everest pav bhaji masala does the magic in this recipe. Sometimes I make this with leftover veggies along with some legumes to make it nutritious. Here I have black-eyed peas.

This is one of the simplest and easiest biryani one can make. Even a beginner can make this. There is a little story behind this recipe. One evening my daughter carved for biryani after returning home from college. She was in that carve even the word biryani when she heard made her salivating. She enquired whether I have any meat in the refrigerator. When she found nothing so decided to make this egg biryani and relish it. With little instructions from me, she made it wholly. Even these pictures she took it from her mobile. We had it with onion-curd raitha.

Ice creams/ popsicle and summer are both inseparable. My kids always look into the refrigerator for some chilled drink/goodies. So I decided to make some popsicle from the milk they refuse to drink as they started hating drinking hot health drinks. so if you have any leftover milk make this easy popsicle. Even if you don't have mould just pour into a tumbler/ paper cup, set it and serve.

 For our Easter lunch, I prepared this mutton pepper roast, mutton biryani, salad, and raitha. It is so simple and easy to make.   If you have the pressure cooked mutton you can prepare this just 5 mins before serving to serve it hot.

This kuzhambu is simple to make and taste delicious for hot steamed rice. The temperature here in Chennai is soaring high day by day and it becomes unbearable to cook in the heat. So I am opting for quick and easy lunch recipes like curd rice, lemon rice, rasam, etc. This mor curry comes in this category which can be prepared quickly. Here coconut is not used instead soaked dal is used to make the paste. Pair some papad or any fries to have a filling and satisfying meal.

Wheat rava idli is a healthy breakfast recipe as we have used wheat instead of regular rice. As wheat is used it is very good even for diabetic people and we find this recipe healthy, tasty and filling. I have used regular broken wheat. But you can also use samba wheat. Clean the wheat rava and soak with less water because after soaking we will not throw out the water. We will use the soaked rava together as such to grind. So use very less water for soaking wheat.

Aval/poha ladoo is a simple snacks to make in jiffy. When sweet carve strikes and not mood to make elobarate one try to make this simplest one and enjoy. Here I have used a mix of cane sugar and white sugar but you can either with any one sugar of mix of both. Also if you prefer making it sugar free just add more pitted dates and grind it and make balls.

When I saw this bright red colored fresh red chili in the market I immediately grabbed some to make few recipes. Apart from this sauce, I didn't do any recipe and the remaining just went into curries and sabzis. This is one of the winter recipes and I bought this along with fresh turmeric in December. This post was lying in my draft. This sauce can be used to the side for momos, crackers and can even use in making any masala. Recently I used it to make potato masala for roti which turned out yummy.

Betel Leaves Chutney/ Thogayal


Easy betel leaves chutney that goes well with hot steamed rice. I got this recipe idea from nee's kitchen and slightly adjusted to my taste. My kids don't like them but I liked it. The betel leaves itself have little spice hence add green chili according to it. This thokku/thogayal can be kept for a long time if the ground paste is sauteed again in oil till all water evaporates. But I didn't do that as I finished off that day itself.

This is one best pie I baked and it's a savory pie. I made the pie base with whole wheat /atta flour I made it for one Sunday lunch in January. My kids loved it as it was totally delicious and yummy. I made the stuffing with mushroom but you can make with non-veg.

With no mind to waste a huge amount of the rind I searched and ended up with this recipe. Many use their own proportion to make the batter. So I too ended up with my own quantity, which gave me super tasty and yummy dosa.

And for the icing, I just melted margarine, then added cocoa powder, icing sugar, essence, milk and whisked it well till it forms a smooth runny mix. If it is good quality then your popcorn will be the best. To check whether its a good one, first popout one kernels and check if it pops out well then that popcorn kernels are good and you can make popcorn with it. If it didn't pop out kindly ignore it than wasting resources in making it.

Sulaimani is nothing but plain tea. It is very famous in the state of Kerala. I am not a fan of this plain tea until last year. I started liking this tea and I don't know how it started till now. I even started liking plain green tea which I never use to drink before. I guess it all age factor and we started liking things which we don't like in a young age. To make this tea is a bit challenging for me with tea powder. When making It I always make it by adding more tea leaves making it unfit to drink. It is my husband who pointed out my mistake since he makes perfect Sulaimani. This drink he just made to me and I just clicked it.

Instant dosa comes as a savior when we don't find time to grind idli/dosa batter or when clueless what to be cooked for breakfast/dinner. As millet flour is used init this dosa happens to be a healthy one. As I mentioned in my previous post, Kadamba chutney, I served this dosa with that chutney. Here I have used ragi flour but I guess you can use any millet flour in a similar way to make this dosa. If  I try with other flour sure I will write about it here.

Kadamba chutney is a made with a mix of many ingredients which goes well for idli/dosa or any millet dosa. Have you seen flower vendors selling kadambam flowers which have a mix of different color flowers and in the same way this chutney also have a mix of different ingredients and hence may be the name( I don't know the exact reason for this chutney and it's my wild guess.) I served this for instant ragi dosa which I will share very soon. Let us see how to make this easy chutney.
